compatible version of xerces

Hi,
I noticed that the different versions of xerces are not compatible. I want
to have SOAP, Tomcat and Enhydra running at the same time, but each of them
use a different version of Xerces(SOAP needs v1.4.4 or above and Enhydra
uses v1.2).
I am wondering whether there is anybody has done some work on this. Is that
worthwhile to modify the source code in V1.4.4 to make it downward
compatible?

Any help would be appreciated.
