[jira] Commented: (STANBOL-25) Remove LGPL HERMIT dependency

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/STANBOL-25?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=12976062#action_12976062 ]

Andreas Kuckartz commented on STANBOL-25:
-----------------------------------------

While
http://apache.org/legal/resolved.html#category-x
states that LGPL-licensed software must not be "included" in Apache "products" that does not automatically seem to imply that it would not be ok to use Maven to access another non-Apache repository delivering an LGPL-licensed library.

(Another question is if the LGPL is really incompatible with the third Apache Software License Criterion: "The license must not place restrictions on the distribution of larger works, other than to require that the covered component still complies with the conditions of its license." The page linked above states that it is incompatible but another Apache page states: "We avoid GPLv3 software because merely linking to it is considered by the GPLv3 authors to create a derivative work. " http://apache.org/licenses/GPL-compatibility.html The situation is not the same for the LGPL)

> According to http://hermit-reasoner.com/license.html our HERMIT dependency is LGPL, we must replace it (or convince that project to switch to a compatible license).
