   thing to consider: mysql 5.7 does not have row_number... not sure how careful we are about this kind of issue... maybe sqlalchemy rewrites it to use variables (the way to do row number on pre-window-function mysql)
   
   suprisingly, apparently sqlite3 3.25 _does_  have window functions ...
