Time estimate Solr Installation

Hi all,

I hope this is teh right place to post this. I want to use Apache Solr
search for my website, which runs in php. I have a table that has about
150.000 news (records) in a Mysql table and i would like to do a basic olr
installation to search in these news.

Basically i am looking for this basic installation, no fancy features...
with search in two fields:

1. Solr server setup.(no master)
2. Mysql and solr integration.
3. php and solr integration.

So basically I want a solr search that searches fast, but basic features. I
understand this is quite a basic integration since it is one table, two
fields.

I am looking for someone who can do this for me at a freelance site, and so
far, I got two budgets (budgeted by hours) which are so different one from
the other that i am really confused. I would love to get an idea of what
may be the correct time.

I have been quoted by a person 15 hours to do the full integration (the
above) and by another one to do the same 80 hours. Both people have strong
experience with Solr and have selected them by their profile where the first
thing they mention is their Solr expertise.

I would appreciate much if anyone with experience could let me know if any
of these two seem right .. or what could be a reasonable time estimate for
this kind of simple integration.

Thank you.

Thanks Jan, you helped me a great deal with such estimate!

Your estimate does seem in line with what one of the freelancers quoted.
Basically i explained to him something similar to what i mention above and
he mentioned it seemed quite straight forward. He said that for the server
set up, it would take him about 2-3 hours and for the rest, it would take
him 10-15 hours ... to have it operative ... which is much in line to what
you say.

The estimate of the second freelancer, who i asked also for a minimum set
up, estimated this at about 80 hours... which is x 4 times... so i was
wondering which one of the two seemed more correct.

I need a set up that does fast searches, but as said, it needs to look only
in one table and two fields from that table. Nothing more... so from what
one of them said.. it is a really simple Solr install.

Your description here would not be enough to give a detailed offer. If you pointed us to your freelancer job description, perhaps it would be easier to compare.

But from your description, it would definitely be possible to get solr with a tuned schema and db import up during the first day, and then some basic PHP integration during the second day - in development env. But if your project contains anything more fancy such as complex search GUIs, relevancy tuning, proper production environment setup with service, logging, monitoring, documentation and other stuff you need, then there would definitely be more than 2 days.
