Continuum and maven 2 project

I've posted to the Continuum list but haven't received any
responses.Maybe someone can help here.
I'm a Continuum  newbie.I've got Continuum running , checking out my maven2
project from CVS and launching a a build.I've noticed that the
projects are checked out into numbered folders( 21, 24,25,26, etc).Why
is this?Is there a way of getting Continuum to always checkout my code
into the same directory and do builds from there?

Second thing is that e-mailing is not working.I get the exception

jvm 1 | DEBUG SMTP: Found extension "OK", arg ""
jvm 1    | DEBUG SMTP: use8bit false
jvm 1    | MAIL FROM:<Mu...@mycompany.co.za>
jvm 1 | 454 5.7.3 Client does not have permission to submit mail to this serv
er.
jvm 1    | com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPSendFailedException: 454 5.7.3 Client does not
have permission to submit mail to this server.

jvm 1    |      at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.sendMessage(SMTPTransport.jav
a:524)
jvm 1    |      at javax.mail.Transport.send0(Transport.java:151)

I've successfully got e-mails sent by CruiseControl when i used it
with Maven1 before.Would have expected Continuum not to give me issues
with e-mailing

Continuum use by default localhost for the smtp host without smtp authentication. If your smtp
settings are different, you need to change them in apps/continuum/conf/application.xml in MailSender
component.

Where do I define the mail usernam/password?
With CruiseControl I never had to do that.This is how it looked like
in my CruiseControl config file :
<htmlemail reportsuccess="always"
css="/home/mutonhj/cruisecontrol-2.1.6/reporting/jsp/css/cruisecontrol.css"
mailhost="MAIL-SERVER.mycompany.co.za" subjectprefix="[BUILD:]"
defaultsuffix="@mycompany.co.za"
xsldir="/home/mutonhj/cruisecontrol-2.1.6/reporting/jsp/xsl"
logdir="/home/mutonhj/mavenwerks/projects/eportal/cc-logs/cc-logs/eportal"
skipusers="false"  returnaddress="MutonhJ@mycompany.co.za">
