Shows original paragraph, then same paragraph after italics formatting
When formatting a "Verdana" paragraph to italics, blank lines are added before
each occurrence of "(" or ")", and the text within the "()" disappears.

I'm also still seeing this problem. At some zoom levels, the text is fine. At
others, some text disappears. I've also reproduced this behavior in other
documents without the occurrence of "(" and ")". In those documents, complete
lines of text disappear at some zoom levels.

New note: I just tested another variation and discovered this only happens if
the text is formatted "bold". In other words, a combination of Verdana font,
bold formatting, and italic formatting.
I tried italicizing an entire bolded paragraph, and the entire paragraph
disappeared. If I un-bolded or un-italicized, the text returned.

It appears that the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition (to be release at the
beginning of August) is now feature complete. According to this message,

Build 14383 is now available to Windows Insiders. I assume fast ring and
possibly the slow ring too.
This build is appropriate for testing of AOO operability, since they are only
looking for bugs now.
The comments on that blog post are important here and also on some other issues
about AOO operating with display scaling. UWP is about Universal Windows
Platform, and it is for responsive applications that scale from mobile up to
large-screen systems. WPF is about Windows Presentation Foundation, and it is
about APIs in Windows that I am pretty certain are younger than the Apache
OpenOffice code base. This should have nothing to do with the Verdana problem
but should be relevant to folks who experience fuzzy fonts in AOO when they
exercise diplay scaling.

I am re-identifying this as Confirmed.
However, we are a long way from having something reproducible. It is going to
take something simple and systematically-demonstrable. We also need to deal
with the fact that different installations, even on the same platform, present
different results.
But there is no question there is an issue and multiple individuals have
confirmed it.

Oops, after sending the last two snips I read your 2nd email and attached is a
snip of how your "corrected document" appears on my machine... All uppercase,
but no extra line returns inserted, and no disappearing text.

This screenshot is exactly what i'm getting. Everything looks fine, but all the
text is bolded and italicized.

Using Apache 4.1.2 on Windows 10 Pro x64 (latest public update) and a 2560 x
1600 display, I downloaded and opened Keith's Attachment 85524,
Verdana-Italics-Issue-knmc.odt. I see exactly what Gail shows in her
Attachment 85525 *except* for me, the third paragraph is completely Bold Italic
(and 14pt) with nothing missing. It is an exact match for Gail's Attachment
85527. There are no extra line breaks and there is no missing text.
Similarly, when I download Gail's original Attachment 855220,
Verdana-Italics-Issue.odt, I see those two paragraphs perfectly with no added
lines or missing text. Everything in the second paragraph is in italic and the
bold text from the first paragraph is in bold italic.
It would seem that whatever the issue is, it is more involved than a difference
between Windows 10 and earlier Windows versions. It appears to be a
rendering/presentation problem and it does not involve corruption of the
document file itself.

Result from applying Theodore's test on Windows 7
I still cannot confirm on Windows 7 with Theodore's latest test. It is
beginning to look like this is an issue only with Windows 10. Will you please
open the attachment Verdana-Italics-Issue-knmc.odt and see if the third
paragraph displays properly.

Hello all,
I've noticed the same problem also after windows 10 june update.
Opening the file attached at that topic, zooming in I can see the text "(A7)"
and "(B7)" disappears.

A Screen Snip of how your document appears on my machine
I am attaching a "Snipping Tool" capture of how your document appears on my
machine.
In your document I tried turning italics on/off and the formatting issue did
not occur. So I copy-pasted the first paragraph from your document to a new
document, and tested the italics issue. I will attach a "snip" of that as
well.

While testing this on windows 10, I managed to accidentally recreated the bug
once, but only once. Subsequent tests have been unsuccessful in recreating the
bug, but if I figure out how I did it, I'll post a full detailed report.

I cannot confirm this with Windows 7. When I open the attached document both
paragraphs are identical except for the italic format. If I select a paragraph
and add both old and italic formatting the chords symbols remain and no text
disappears. Will a volunteer with Windows 10 please try to confirm.

I can add that it not happens only on windows 10, but also with windows 8.1.
If it can help, I've seen that in these OS the font version (verdana) is
different from the 7's one.

Test with changed font size
Is this what you are seeing? I managed to do this with the following steps:
1. Download the original file from the report and open it in AOO Writer
2. Highlight and Copy the original paragraph and paste it below the italicized
paragraph, making sure the copy looks exactly like the original
3. Highlight the newly pasted text and change the font size to 14
4. while still highlighting the text, press CTRL+I to italicize the text,
resulting in the screenshot I attached

OS: Windows 10 64-bit

Despite the request for more information there has been no activity for 2
years. I have tried to reconfirm the issue with the following configuration and
could not.

Dennis;
That is what the 3rd paragraph of that file should look like. Theodore had
managed to replicate the original problem by copy and paste the first paragraph
at bottom of document then changing the font sie to 14 and applying the bold
and italic. That document was my attempt at those steps with Windows 7. I agree
that it sounds more like a rendering issue. At this point.
Given that Theodore was able to duplicate the original problem I am leaning
towards setting this as confirmed. What is the consensus of doing that?

6/4/2016 - Windows 10 did a major update on my computer last night, and it
seems they may have fixed whatever was causing this problem. I've tried
re-creating the problem in several documents it has not recurred.

can't spend too much effort on font-rendering matters that may be a function of
non-released Windows builds and not AOO.
One thing we need to do is have people be clear when they are using advance
versions of releases, whether Windows or AOO. Unfortunately, Microsoft has
made it more difficult for an user to determine exactly what the version and
update status is for a Windows 10 released version.
(I'm also not certain this should have been closed based on one reporter having
the problem disappear. For this kind of thing, it could be coincidental.
Let's see if others continue to report the issue in one flavor or another.)
