Debugging xalan-c

I'm using MSVC to learn about xalan-c and I can't figure out how to look at
it's variables.
If I have an XalanDOMString how do I use the debugger to look at the string
value?
How about looking at an XalanElement's node name?

Is there a description of how to use DOMStrings somewhere?
