Re: [users@httpd] apache server mgt. --> Failover system, loadbalancing

Hi,

I would say Failover system or a sort loadbalancing you mean. ( good idea
for the topic, I changed a bit ;))
The problem is that you said the server goes down so apache can't do
anything more ( cause as you said it is dead ).

There are several solutions with a HEARTBEAT message in clusters ... search
for that on google ...
I personally do it at home with a linux box firewall which just sends out
multicasts ( heartbeat ) and if the 1st doesn't reply I change my iptables
configuration.
Of course this is not a business solution but there are either commercial
solutions or open source ones. Just use google.

Hopefully it helped.

Paul

hey Paul I just fixed that problem, but did you say you know about game
programming in Java?
If you do know advanced stuff, there's only one thing I'm trying to learn
about. How to have a save function in my game.
I read about making a high score server that saves to my computer, but even
copying their code directly came up with errors. Do you know what the
client or server code would be? Or how to have my server run the server
code? Please if you do or know where to look for that email me at

hmm did that someone mean virtual machines or virtual hosts ?
If he meant virtual machine then it is the same as putting them on a
cluster. Cause then the cluster is responding as one machine.

Then I would suggest you go deeper in that cluster topic ...

Thanks for the mail. I was surprised to receive only one response for
it. Is it because it is an oft repeated question? Or such a thing cannot
be implemented? Someone on chat said he had heard "virtual machines"
can do these things. What are these? Is this related to DNS or apache?

I need some thing more to go on to find an effective solution, more of a
business solution than a normal home solution.

Please do tell if anyone has more info on this.
