can u try on windows?

java version "1.4.2_08"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_08-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_08-b03, mixed mode)

i tried on a solaris boss with the following

java version "1.4.2-p6"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build
1.4.2-p6-brian_02_apr_2004_13_19)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-p6-brian_02_apr_2004_13_19, mixed mode)

works fine there as well.

Hmmm... Strange indeed. I am using

java version "1.4.2_04"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_04-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_04-b05, mixed mode)

but the build fails for me.
