Hi Peter,

Exception handling is one the warts of the HttpClient 2.0 code base. It was one of the first areas
overhauled for 3.0. Please have a look at the 3.0 exception handling guide for more about
what's in the new release.

http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/httpclient/3.0/exception-handling.html

3.0 is currently at an alpha2 release but it is very stable. Also given the paucity of bug reports we've
seen so far it will be moving on to beta and final release before long.

Barring a groundswell of support for back porting the exception changes to 2.0, I would suggest giving
3.0 a try.

Mike
