update cocoon-2.0.2.tar.gz / .zip?

Hi,
shouldn't we make new cocoon-2.0.2 download files with corrections
if they solve showblockers?
In particular I mean
-> AbstractValidatorAction?
-> new excalibur to handle jdk1.4 jdbc?

Carsten, what about a Cocoon 2.0.3 or Cocoon 2.0.2_01 release?

I think +1. micro point releases should be small and frequent.
minor point releases should be a little more substantial and
less frequent. Of course Major point releases even less frequent.

Anyone here know? Is that what I'm/we're waiting for for a 2.0.3?

JDK1.4/SQL issue will be fixed with new excalibur release (independent of jdk version).
Alternatively I can send you the fixed excalibur, but this is working only for JDK1.4.
This is no real good alternative but who knows how long it takes to release new excalibur?

Yes, I remember. The difference is that I propose to do
that on regular basis. I've polished my ideas a bit, here
they are:

1. If there is any major bugfix, schelule new release for
_two days_ after that bug was fixed. If no new issues were
found in two days, release new version.

2. If there is really alot of serious bugfixes, release
just once a week or two. Is such thing happens, it means
that original release was made too early.

3. If there were just minor bugfixes like samples etc, put
them into corresponding cvs branch as before, and that's
it. No need in new release. Instructions on how to get that
version from cvs should be available on website, as well as
changes done after the last release.

I already thought that the third number is for bugfix releases. The
second number is for introducing new feature and maybe backward
incompatability issues.

Hi!

> I could make a release on Friday, Monday or Tuesday if
> the problems are fixed by then.

Let me introduce some useful idea about making new
releases.

You can do one stable branch like "2.0.2" and severa
bugfixes branches like "2.0.2.1" and apply only bugfixes
there. If two day passed since last bugfix and no one finds
problems about it, when it's time for "2.0.2.x".

This way you can improve stability. Look at this cite:

******
Cocoon does not work properly on the RaQ4i server. It
crashes the Tomcat server
which in turns crashes the Apache server. There are Cobalt
customised automated
Tomcat scripts on the server to take into consideration.
******

I don't know that version of cocoon/tomcat (and that
scripts) that guy was talking about, but (weekly?) bugfix
releases might help with such things much better than new
releases filled with new features and bugs just once in a
month or two. Code freeze doesn't help enough as we've
seen.

Yes, a 2.0.3 seems a good idea.

So, when is the JDK1.4/SQL issue fixed? I don't see real problems right now
with the JSP samples as noone complains about them. But if we get them
fixed, too, excellent.

I could make a release on Friday, Monday or Tuesday if the problems are
fixed
by then.

I would love to see 2.0.3 as soon as JDK1.4/SQL issue is resolved in the
CVS. Another thing to be included is JSP samples fix.
