Summary: Loading a sample file (jtl)
Product: JMeter
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows XP
Status: NEW
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P3
Component: HTTP
AssignedTo: jmeter-dev@jakarta.apache.org
ReportedBy: glhez@glowria.fr
Hi,
I'm really ok with loading sample file (eg: a result from a test) into jMeter,
but there is something REALLY annoying : when you load such file, jMeter freeze.
The reason is fairly simple :
public void AbstractVisualizer.stateChanged(ChangeEvent e) {
log.debug("getting new collector");
collector = (ResultCollector) createTestElement();
collector.loadExistingFile();
}
This is called in the Event dispatch thread which also manage the different GUI
event.
The solution is fairly simple :
public void AbstractVisualizer.stateChanged(ChangeEvent e) {
log.debug("getting new collector");
collector = (ResultCollector) createTestElement();
filePanel.enableFile(false);
new Thread(new Runnable() {public void run() {
collector.loadExistingFile();
filePanel.enableFile(true);
}}).start();
}
This should avoid this tiny annoying thing.

Note that the AbstractVisualizer should be removed for this to work.

Note, that I think it should be better to do this :
public void AbstractVisualizer.stateChanged(ChangeEvent e) {
// if ( filePanel.isEnabled() ) {
log.debug("getting new collector");
collector = (ResultCollector) createTestElement();
filePanel.enableFile(false);
new Thread(new Runnable() {public void run() {
collector.loadExistingFile();
filePanel.enableFile(true);
}}).start();
// }
}
To avoid calling multiple time the thread

I've not noticed JMeter freezing.
Are you talking about very large JTL files, perhaps?
Also, not sure one can call
filePanel.enableFile(true);
from a thread other than the Gui, so this would need to be done in some other
way.

Yes, my jtl file make some 10megs.
For the case of enableFile(true), it works for me. The purpose here is to
disable it while loading the file : if you can't load another file, then there
should be no problem.
