[jira] [Created] (TRAFODION-99) LP Blueprint: infra-reuse-compiles - infra - separate compile portion into separate jobs

Alice Chen created TRAFODION-99:
-----------------------------------

Summary: LP Blueprint: infra-reuse-compiles - infra - separate compile portion into separate jobs
                 Key: TRAFODION-99
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TRAFODION-99
             Project: Apache Trafodion
          Issue Type: New Feature
          Components: Build Infrastructure
            Reporter: Steve Varnau
            Assignee: Steve Varnau
            Priority: Critical

Preliminary investigation indicates we can save significant VM bandwidth by having one (or two) nodes running builds and having downstream test jobs pick up the build artifacts.

Single larger node with more memory and CPU can run multiple jenkins executors.
Each build job then triggers test jobs, passing along the build number. (JJB trigger-builds)
Each test job downloads the build files (JJB copyartifact)

Potential issues:
- Zuul status reporting. May need significant work on status.js.
- JJB configuration might be more complex.
- Test jobs may expect to have sources available. May need work to separate build/test activities.
