Guidance on display of 3rd party logos

Hi team,

On our homepage (gobblin.apache.org), we would like to show logos for:
A. Entities (commercial or otherwise) that are leveraging Gobblin
B. Data sources and sinks that Gobblin can connect to

So, in regards to that, we had a few questions:
1. Is it okay to display the logos of commercial entities on our home page (
gobblin.apache.org)
2. If so, should our disclaimer and attribution reflect that in any
particular format?
3. Any caveats that we should watch out for? Or steps that we should
follow?

Thanks,
Abhishek

The ASF treats cases A and B differently.

Logos for Case B is OK on the home page.

Logos for Case A are not OK on the home page. They typically appear on a
"Powered by" page.

You may wish to add something like:

"Other trademarks, logos and brand names are the property of their
respective owners."

after the standard ASF trademark text on any page where you use marks
that are owned by entities other than the ASF.

All links should be no-follow.

Logos should have equal prominence.

While such use of logos is nominative use (in my view), corporate
entities often request that permission is obtained before using their
logos. While nominative use may allow us to simply use the logos, ASF
policy is that "We play nicely with others" and that includes following
any requests that they may have regarding the use of their logo. This
means that quite a lot of work may be required to get formal approval to
use various logos.
