This seems more in the right direction if your ask me. I too think the
current one beats the ones suggested earlier. Though in your version it
seems as if he is trying to hold while sliding out of the square ;-) I
think you could get a long way with some better positioning. I like the
cleanliness. It gives a more professional look.

Though I don't quite know why a recognizable logo that has been around
for a while and which fulfills it's purpose more than adequately should
be changed.

Those are my thoughts,
Joost

Ok, these new ones are looking great!
It's still tapestry.. thats what I think is important.

My favorite is #7

Re: New logo designs

Posted by Robin Komiwes <ro...@gmail.com>.
It's true that the actual logo is good. However, imho it looks like a
bit old fashioned and not enough "pro". After seeing the first series
of logos, I'm convinced that we should make an update of the current
one rather than a completely new one. I love the idea of a new logo
because design tendencies have evolved and because it proves that the
project is active.

There are other (minors) pros I have about making a new logo:
- the unicorn should be mirrored : the unicorn should be oriented to
the right, not to the left (don't ask me why, it's just a design rule
that I've been told)
- we want a web safe typo for the title.

I've uploaded new directions, taking account of already received
feedback. To be fair, I've also put the original logo with the same
title and baseline than the new logos I propose.

Anyway, maybe we should continue to discuss some more days (till the
end of next week?), and finally make a vote about the logo question,
to know if we move on or keep the current one.

I like it! :) Looks modern and stylish. I would just reduce the length of
the horn and maybe show the full unicorn.

# 7 looks good but I'm still not sure if this one is better than #13 or #15.

I would remove the green eye.

#21: yes, it's much better with the grey box!
could you try how it looks if the green box is rotated by ~40°?

similar to that one: http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/9913/0303withbugasfeaturerot.png
without the unicorn, of course. it's just a quick image hack :)

i think the logo would gain stability if the rotation is changed!

I'd also like to see it with more of the fanned boxes fading into the
background. Either around the center or maybe trailing away toward the

I'd say it's simpler if you just pick the few likeliest choices for
the first vote based on this thread (like the ones that have already
been unofficially voted on, as long as it's not too many). Votes "to
choose what to vote on" don't typically work well. If the current one
is included in the initial vote, it'll work fine.

That was an item on my personal road map. I will provide B&W and
greyscales versions, maybe without lightning effect, drop shadows and
gradients.

BTW we shouldn't forget that the logo should be nice looking not only in web
but also printed. Publisher should be able to print it easily. Is it
possible to provide a printable version? Isn't the color gradient a problem
for printability?

i think before someone comes in with a complete different proposal we should vote on the few favorites (I think at least #21 and #23). anyone thinking that another proposal should make it into the vote? If not, the vote should begin shortly, imho...

I'm definitely a #23 fan over #21, sorry Andreas. #23 feels more subtle to more, and #21 more awkward.

New update, taking account of Christian's feedback.

It will certainly be the last update from me before a vote on a
possible change of Tapestry 5 logo. We still can make additional
updates after the vote.

I would need some help to initiate the vote. I was thinking of 2 steps:
- vote to choose 2 preferred logos (current one included)
- vote to choose between the 2 preferred logos

Just to be clear, I don't mind at all if the community want to keep
the current logo. I just tried to make things moving on.

Re: New logo designs

Posted by Howard Lewis Ship <hl...@gmail.com>.
Think we're about ready to run a vote? Seem like people are
gravitating towards #7 (revised as #21).

Do we want to go further and have a series of lighter grey boxes,
rotating, dimming and retreating into the screen? How about grey
boxes in a fan, like playing cards?

There are two new versions available. It is new tries around 03_03
(#7) and 03_03_darkbg (#8).
Green background has been lightly updated on both.
The first version is the cleaned version, i.e. without the grey box.
The other one is a try to transform the bug as a feature. ;)

The more I look at #7 the more i like it. But it definitely needs some fixes. That grey box should become a little more visible + the rounded corners to make the whole logo more stable. Without the box the rotation of the icon will make the logo look like it's falling apart... well, I would experiment here a bit more...

The other squared logos look a bit too boring.
I like the last ones (#17/#18) best at the moment. The icon is modernized, the unicorn looks into the right direction and appears to be emergent. Don't remove that light-effect from any proposal, it's great! :)

It's fun because when I discussed yesterday with Christophe about the
grey behind the logo, he told me that he was aware of this was a
defect but he would keep it. Maybe we should keep this unexpected
element.

About the green eye... It was a way to give "life" to the unicorn. It
s also on the original tapestry [1]

Hi

To be honest my favorite is still the current one. Observing all the new
logos design and reading at the slogan proposals, i think we are missing
something in the logo. It has the shape of a 'blazon' but not the weaving
grain.

Maybe it would nice to work on the texture or typo so it looks closer to the
initial thought of 'Tapestry' and weaving concept.

work though even that might make it too "Google Gears" like.

I like the blue one most. I would add more aggressiveness. The horse should
look stronger, wilder and more powerful. Like a brumby or mustang. The horn
should be longer, as in the current version. Maybe the blue color should be
light blue. See Skype blue or twitter blue.

They all remind me of Christmas ornaments. =)

I definitely prefer the hairy horses to the shaved horses.
The gear one is cool, and the blue one.

I need to Gimp this into a unicorn...
