`./gradlew check` consistently fails for me and the failures are consistently spurious. I don't think we run it in our CI at all, so it's liable to be broken at any time. In summary, the ./gradlew check is useless at best, misleading at worst.

While it's true that detailed instructions for `git clone`ing are included on the cwiki, I missed that at first, and it seems I'm not the only one. Maybe we should word it more strongly instead: "Clone the git repo according to the instructions here."
