[jira] [Commented] (SPARK-7217) Add configuration to disable
stopping of SparkContext when StreamingContext.stop()

Sean Owen commented on SPARK-7217:
----------------------------------
FWIW I'd expect the current behavior since things like {{InputStream.close()}} would always close the underlying stream, if one exists, in the JDK. I assume you're not proposing changing that. How about a new optional param to control whether to stop the underlying stream? Or make the implementation of SparkContext for a specific app un-stoppable instead?

> In environments like notebooks, the SparkContext is managed by the underlying infrastructure and it is expected that the SparkContext will not be stopped. However, StreamingContext.stop() calls SparkContext.stop() as a non-intuitive side-effect. This JIRA is to add a configuration in SparkConf that sets the default StreamingContext stop behavior. It should be such that the existing behavior does not change for existing users.
