all httpd's are eating my cpu load....

....and doesn't answer to any request.

Hi all,

I know that it worked any time before. but now I can't run apache without
passing him -X.
The behavior comes on Apache 1.3.26 and Apache 2.0.33, so I think it's either
an adopted bug or it depends on an external library (I guess: mm).

I'm using Gentoo Linux (1.4-rc1) with default compiler 3.2 on an Athlon
XP.....

I do really not know since when I have that problem. If I do start apache, it
eats my cpu load.

After having never been able to solve the problem, I decided to completely
reinstall my server system.

But the very fresh install lets still eat my CPU load by apache. I previousely
noticed, that I got problems on installing mm, all semaphore types are
working on my system, except fcntl, I chose ipcsem, then it worked..

"make test" in the mm package (tested both: 1.1.3 and 1.2.1) gave me the same
behaviour on running mm_test at memory locking test as I do get by all the
apache processes (without -X). But apache still eats, even with the new mm's
semtype.

- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The main process has the following backtrace:
(gdb) backtrace
#0 0x0038a5ce in select () from /lib/libc.so.6
#1 0x003dea74 in __DTOR_END__ () from /lib/libc.so.6
#2 0x08062389 in ap_child_terminate ()
#3 0x08062b17 in main ()
#4 0x002d94c2 in __libc_start_main () from /lib/libc.so.6
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The child processes have all the same backtrace (calling stack)
(gdb) backtrace
#0 0x0805f6bd in ap_update_child_status ()
#1 0x08061358 in ap_child_terminate ()
#2 0x08061b2f in ap_child_terminate ()
#3 0x08061bd9 in ap_child_terminate ()
#4 0x08062251 in ap_child_terminate ()
#5 0x08062b17 in main ()
#6 0x002d94c2 in __libc_start_main () from /lib/libc.so.6
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This unfortunately doesn't really help me, I just do know the commands
backtrace, attach, and quit ;) if you tell me more, I'll type'em.

I unfortunately really really need Apache, so I'd be really very happy if
someone can help me out fixing that ugly bug soon (in either httpd or mm).

Thanks in advance,
Christian Parpart.

p.s.: as a workaround, I'm currently running apache with -X, but it's very
very slow on transfering even static content.
