[users@httpd] Apache on Win2k: Service will not start

Hello.

The Apache service will not start on Win2k.  The error log has the following 
lines:

[Tue Sep 17 21:49:15 2002] [notice] Parent: Created child process 1984
[Tue Sep 17 21:49:15 2002] [notice] Child 1984: Child process is running
[Tue Sep 17 21:49:15 2002] [crit] (32545)The attempted operation is not 
supported for the type of object referenced.  : Parent: WSADuplicateSocket 
failed for socket 3112352. Check the FAQ.
[Tue Sep 17 21:49:15 2002] [crit] (22609)The pipe has been ended.  : 
setup_inherited_listeners: Unable to read socket data from parent
[Tue Sep 17 21:49:15 2002] [crit] (32545)The attempted operation is not 
supported for the type of object referenced.  : master_main: create child 
process failed. Exiting.
[Tue Sep 17 21:49:15 2002] [notice] Parent: Forcing termination of child 
process 3119776 

This is the error log from version 2.0.40.  I have the same problem with 
version 1.3.26.  I get similar lines after each time I try to start the service.

Any idea what is going on here?

I use Win2k with a pre-SP3 patch (this is my firm's standard install).  The 
installer version on my PC is 1.11.2405.0, which is later than the 1.10 
requirement on the Apache page, but the installer still displays the 
window: "1207: Windows(R) Installer 1.11.2405.0 found.  This is an older 
version of the Windows(R) installer.  Click OK to continue."
