It looks like problem is embedded XMPP server (vysper 0.7): it uses transitively mina-core ~2.0.2 that we override to 2.21 currently. This started to happen after mina upgrade so I tried to lower the version to 2.0.17 and it worked however only with java8. So it looks like only solution is wait till new release of vysper (if something like that will ever happen) or rewrite tests to use different xmpp server (i.e using TestContainers and docker)
