[users@httpd] how to distribute tomcat and apache on different machines

Hi,
   I want to have apacahe and tomcat separately installed on different machines
to make apache serve all images and stataic html files and to make tomcat serve only jsp's, servlets and classes 
   Can you pl be specific how to configure virtual host configuration in httpd.conf and server.xml of tomact
   Here I am using apache 2.0.39 and tomcat 4.0.4b2

Any help greatly appreciated
