DO NOT REPLY [Bug 118680] New: Find > Replace: should carry the
Replacement Text from previous search
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=118680
Bug #: 118680
Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Find > Replace: should carry the Replacement Text from
previous search
Classification: Application
Product: Word processor
Version: OOo 3.3
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows 7
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P5
Component: ui
AssignedTo: writerneedsconfirm@openoffice.org
ReportedBy: lotus7174@kimo.com
CC: ooo-issues@incubator.apache.org
Version: 3.3
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7
Language: Chinese (complex-character, also called traditional-character
version)
1. Open two files.
2. In one file, do Edit > Find > Replace, and fill in the "Search Text" and
"Replacement Text".
3. Go to another file, do Edit > Find.
PROBLEM: Only the "Search Text" is carried over. The "Replacement Text" is
blank.
EXPECTATION: The "Replacement Text" (and maybe all options, too) should be
carried over, so that we can do the same replacement in other files.
Thanks.

@Marcus: Would you record here how you managed to reproduce the problem? On WV,
using the en-US version, I do this frequently, and it works fine.
@zhongqiyao: Would you do two things?
1) Confirm that the "Replace" drop-list is empty, when working on the second
document.
2) Try a "Replace" string with only ASCII characters (hex 20 - 7E). Do you
still see the problem? Thanks.

You may also try *not* closing the Find/Replace dialog in both files, and see
what happens.
Thanks.

Reproduction:
When you do a second batch of replacements, it happen.
1. Open two blank "Write" documents (windows): A and B.
2. Into A and B respectively, write "1".
3. In A, find "1" and replace with "2". It may not matter whether find
succeeded, or replacement is carried out. But is my test case, I let both of
them succeed.
Now, in B, the "Search Text" has "1" preselected, and the "Replacement Text"
has "2" in the drop-down.
4. In A, find "2" and replace with "3". Now, in B, the "Search Text" has "2"
preselected, and "1" in the drop-down, *but* the "Replacement Text" does *not*
have "3" either preselected or in the drop-down, but only "2" in the drop-down.
I hope this helps.
Thanks.

Please note that you should be able to retrieve the "Replacement Text" by
clicking on the down-arrow of the drop-box and selecting the text; it should be
the top entry. It does seem strange, that the two fields are not treated the
same.

@tj:
I created 2 new text docs and entered dumy text (enter "dt" and press [F3]),
searched & replaced something and left the dialogs always open. Here the items
in the drop-down-lists is not exchanged into each others dialog.
Today I've closed the dialogs in both docs and opened them separately for
searching & replacing.
Now this seems to work. So, the items in the drop-down-list get saved when the
dialog is closed and not while it's open. But I don't know if this still
qualifies for an enhancement.

The replacement text, which was input in another window,
does not appear in the combo list with the Down Arrow key.
Thanks.
