Project status and current health

I'm curious about the current status of the Xindice project:
I don't see much activity on mail lists (users or dev) for
almost a month now.

Is Xindice still an active project?
Or should Xindice users start to consider porting their
codes to other alternatives (Exist, dbXML, Oracle, Ipedo, etc?)

Xindece is owned by the Xindice community; of which you Sandy, and Todd
and all those others helping out are as much part as anyone else.

Though not ideal - it is not bad for a community to split/hand-off to one
group which maintains the older code and see a new group embark onto
something new. Either at the ASF or elsewhere.

And if you are very low on resources -and- you have developers giving you
good patches; consider adding a few committers quickly :-)

We're grateful for the great work (Xindice) that has already been done.
We've spent two years developing a (scientific data, domain specific) front
end to Xindice. It makes us feel a little nervous to have all our eggs in
one (at least temporarily) stalled basket.

Our best developer (Todd Byrne) encountered an Xupdate bug
a few weeks ago--that was a show stopper for us. Todd submitted
a patch--that no one at Xindice has had time to address yet.
That leaves us holding what amounts to our own custom
branch of the Xindice codes. That too makes me a little nervous.

Xindice is a great project. I hope for the best.

Xindice currently lacks developers with time to contribute to it, but it
does not mean that it is dead.

I'm curious, why would you start porting?
