CMS best practice for deploying versioned docs

Greets,

A few months ago there were conversations about the best way to deploy huge
quantities of generated files via the CMS -- typically versioned Javadocs.
I've searched the archives, but I've been unable to unearth the conclusion
reached by those conversations.

What's best practice for deploying versioned HTML docs via the CMS?

    A) Check in individual files.
    B) Check in a tarball and let the CMS expand it? Is this possible?
    C) ?
