[Bug 5898] New: Blacklist_to triggers for valid names followed by n
or nn
https://issues.apache.org/SpamAssassin/show_bug.cgi?id=5898
Summary: Blacklist_to triggers for valid names followed by n or
nn
Product: Spamassassin
Version: 3.2.4
Platform: All
URL: http://www.castergrp.com
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P5
Component: Rules
AssignedTo: dev@spamassassin.apache.org
ReportedBy: gsbrown@castergrp.com
CC: gsbrown@castergrp.com
The blacklist_to is a powerful feature that I am using to block spam that is
sent to fake addresses at my domain. The spambots sometimes mangle the to
names of legitimate users on my system, and consistently attempt to send spam
to them using the mangled name. I scan for the mangled names and add them to
the block_to list.
One of the manglings it to add an "n" or "nn" to the end of the names. When I
add the mangled name, for example johnsmithnn@* to the block_to list, it blocks
mail to the legitimate user account johnsmith@domain1.com and
johnsmith@domain2.com. The Spamassassin filter server operate for several
domains on our network.
Thank you for a great service that you provide.

--- Comment #3 from Kevin A. McGrail <km...@pccc.com> 2011-10-28 21:26:21 UTC ---
I made kevintest@<domain> and kevintestnn@<domain> both work as email
addresses.
I then added a kevintestnn@<domain> blacklist_to entry.
I then emailed from AOL to kevintest@<domain> and kevintestnn@<domain>
The first passed fine. The second got a score of 10 blacklist_to.
I then modified the blacklist_to entry to kevintestnn@* and repeated with
behavior as expected.
In short, I cannot replicate this issue.
