active mq cache usage

Hello active mq users , 
                is there a property called as cachingenabled on active
mq connection or active mq connection factory. Iam using 4.1.1 release
version for active mq . Our application uses an embedded broker , Tomcat
5.5.20 and Java 1.6 . How does this property affect the memory usage and
performance ? Is it enabled by default
