xerces

Can someone clarify the situation re: xerces versions.

I've not had a problem with Apache-Soap as yet but i may have to deploy to a
situation where i don't control the servlet engine classpath. It has xerces
1.3.1. in it.

I've seen some of postings saying to avoid this version.
So can some kind fellow SOAPer tell me

a) what are the issues with it (if any)?
b) if there are issues is there a workaround?

Please note i am willing to use soap 2.1 and up.

Hopefully servlets 2.3 will put an end to all this by separating the servlet
engine / webapp classloaders!

P.S. If anyone out there is struggling with SOAP and SSL with client
certificate auth i've already experienced the pain and can probably help!
