PMC Branding Responsibilities

This is primarily an email for the PMC. Can you all please ensure
that you read the PMC Branding Responsibilities page [1].

Can you please reply to this page when you've done so. Making sure
we've all read it is needs to form part of our next board report.

Cheers,

Tom

I must admit I didn't either at the time. From memory, Sim suggested
earlier that we should treat committer and PMC member status separately,
I think he was right.

Perhaps in future when we offer someone committer status, we should
point them to the relevant PMC document and ask them if they'd like to
be a PMC member also.

It is my understanding that a committer doesn't have to be a PMC member,
but a PMC member must be a committer, is that correct?

Peter.

I've read the document, and am thinking about its implications.

I am not a trademark enforcer. I have no training as a trademark
enforcer, and no interest in learning to be one. I did not understand
that joining the PMC meant becoming a trademark enforcer.

@Peter, yes I think you're right and that's the right way around.

@Patricia, like Peter I didn't realise either. But I guess that "protecting
the brand of the project" should fall to that projects council.

>From what I understand, it's not a Judge Dredd style enforcement role. it's
more noticing when any companies that use River start attributing the River
names to themselves. From what I've seen with other projects and
conversations on board@ it's actually pretty obvious when companies do
this. We just have to ask them to stop. If we're at all unsure if
something like that needs attention then we have legal@, trademarks@ and
board@ who are there to help us. That help could possibly include.handing
the whole issue over to them to resolve if we thought that we were unable
to.

Such actions are a bit outside of my personal comfort zone, but I'm happy
that the ASF has enough support in place should I/we need it.
