My system is AIX 4.3.2 and the compiler is Visual Age C++ 5.
I also had the pthread_mutexattr_setkind_np unresolved external on a 32 bit 
compilation. Applying the patch presented here solved the problem. So I think 
that this patch should be applied in the main distribution of xerces-c, unless 
it would break compilation with Visual Age version 3.0.
This bug also applies to version 1.6.0.
