Open in OpenOffice 4.0.1 to see unwanted line numbers

The attached .DOC document opens without problems in Microsoft Office, while in
OpenOffice 4.0.1 every line is numbered.

If I select all and disable line numbering from Format - Paragraph it works,
but if one doesn't explicitly do so the appearance is quite different from the
Word document.

Reported for 3.4, 4.0 and 4.0.1.

Some additional info:

a) It seems that never worked with OOo, unexpected line numbers already
   visible with OOo 1.1.5 on WIN
b) Competitors: No problem with sample document and Calligra, Softmaker 
   FreeOffice and MS WORD Viewer.
   LibO 4.2 (Version from July or so) also suffers from that problem.
c) obvservation: "Default" Paragraph style contains some strange 
   "Level 9 Numbering"
d) Problem persists for a document saved from FreeOffice Textmaker as .odt,
e) Strange effect: TextMaker.odt document from (d) will show line numbering
   when reopened in TextMaker or Calligra
