Problem with Jetspeed 1.4

Dear list members,

I am in the process of moving a test site from Jetspeed 1.4-b4 running on
Intel/Linux to Jetspeed 1.4 running on SPARC/Solaris9 64 Bit and I have
encountered the following problem: there are several hundred lines
complaining about "RegistryService: Failed to retrieve null from Portlet" in
the jetspeed.log file, leading up to the following two errors:

ERROR org.apache.jetspeed.services.logging.JetspeedLoggingService - Error
rendering Velocity template: screens/html/Home.vm: Invocation of method
'getPane' in  class org.apache.jetspeed.util.template.JetspeedTool threw
exception class java.lang.StackOverflowError : null

ERROR org.apache.jetspeed.services.logging.JetspeedLoggingService - Error
rendering Velocity template: screens/ShowError: Unable to find resource
'screens/ShowError'

Can anyone explain this behaviour and how to remedy it?
