replication -- push versus pull getting different results

I have 2 machines both running on amazon EC2 which were both started from
the same AMI, so they should have the same couchdb version, etc.

When I run replication from source --> target as a push I get all my
documents transferred (~250)
When I run replication as a pull, it always seems to leave off at least 10
documents.

I have compacted the database prior to running this, so I can't figure out
what might be going on.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Sadly I don't think so as I'm only using temp views in my app right now. (the GUI at _utils doesn't show any design docs)
