[VOTE] Migrate Apache Xalan from CVS to SVN
I'm proposing that we move from CVS to SVN (Subversion) by the end of the
year (or sooner).
Active committers should please vote on this proposal.
If you go to http://xalan.apache.org/ ( not http://xml.apache.org ),
and click on the "Charter" link on the left, you will see Xalan's charter,
and you will see within the Charter that there is a two week window in
which to vote.
Here is my +1 on the proposal.

In the existing structure under xml-xalan in CVS, the following are dead,
and will not be migrated:
* xml-xalan/bin
* xml-xalan/docs
* xml-xalan/samples
* xml-xalan/src
* xml-xalan/xdocs
In the existing structure under xml-xalan in CVS, I propose that
the following be migrated:
* xml-xalan/c
* xml-xalan/java
* xml-xalan/test
Other Apache projects have already moved. You can go to
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/ and have a look. The list includes:
* ant
* forrest
* gump
* httpd
* xerces (xerces-c an xerces-p)
There are about 35 entries on this page.
I propose that the top level URL be:
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/xalan
Under this I propose these "directories"
* /java/branches (Xalan-j branches)
* /java/tags (Xalan-j tags)
* /java/trunk (Xalan-j HEAD)
* /c/branches (Xalan-C branches)
* /c/tags (Xalan-C tags)
* /c/trunk (Xalan-C HEAD)
* /test/branches (Xalan branches)
* /test/tags (Xalan tags)
* /test/trunk (Xalan HEAD)

It is an Apache wide effort. You can read about reasons why here [1].

I'm curious about the reasons for the switch. Yes, I, too, am tired of cvs
branch issues and the lack of change control for directories and symlinks.
But, what is it about SVN that is so compelling that it is worth leaving a
well-known pain for an unknown pain?
Does Apache.org have a commentary on "why we are switching to SVN"?
