NetBeans freezes randomly

Hi,

I just updated from 11.3 to 12.6. I used to run it with JDK 8 and switched to JDK 17. My OS is Windows 10. After the update NetBeans freezes from time to time randomly as far as I know. The screen remains grays for several seconds and eventually it goes back to normal. It is almost a clean installation as I transfered manually the configuration. Any tips about how to debug the issue and provide useful information in a JIRA issue?

Hello,

I face freezing too since I switched to 12.6, before I used 12.5.
I need to focus on another application to get control back.

I suspected at first that I was running Netbeans on a VM without an
internet connection.
My VM has 4 VCPU and 12 GB with Windows Server 2016

Regards,

Arnaud

Thanks Alonso,

I have 32 GB of RAM in my system. There is more programs running but nothing new, only the switch from Netbeans 11.3 to 12.6.

I would like to know how much RAM you have on your system. I used to run NetBeans 8.2 on a Windows 8 computer with 4 GB RAM and that was enough at first, but later on it wasn't. I never dared install IntelliJ IDEA on that computer. In my experience, 8 GB RAM for NetBeans 12.6 running Java 8 on Windows 10 is almost always sufficient (though it's woefully inadequate for trying to run Zoom and VS Code at the same time).

By the way, I was stuck on NetBeans 11.2 at the start of the pandemic. It was only a couple of weeks ago that I upgraded to 12.6. I'm pretty sure I did nothing "manually," I just let the installation wizard do its thing and I haven't had any problem working on any of my projects that I started in 8.2, 11.1 or 11.2. I haven't yet started any projects in 12.6. Also, I had a set up for C++ and Fortran in 11.2 and I haven't checked if that's available in my 12.6 installation.

So it might be pertinent for you to mention if you use NetBeans for anything besides Java.
