Batik with X-window?

Hi there,

I try to using Batik to generate SVG in a linux box with some sample code.
However, I got an exception that the program cannot connect to x-window. My
intention is to use Batik as a server side solution to generate image. After
install the x-window everything seems find. But my question is, why should I
use x-window? Is there a way to by pass x-window?

Regards
Kelvin

This has been discussed a number of times on the
JAVA2D-INTEREST@JAVA.SUN.COM list. Some of the suggestions have been to
use xvfb instead of a normal xserver, others suggest a java library that
replaces awt (don't quote me on that).

Here is one recent discussion:

Here is an older one:

Just search java.sun.com.
