If Java 8 is used as build JDK we don't need to make any changes, to either code or pom.xml.
FWIW I tested the addition of maven.compiler.release with Java 8 and it does not file. It appears that maven knows how to handle it correctly.

However, Java 9 and newer versions have the additional flip method. I believe if pom.xml contains {{<maven.compiler.release>8</maven.compiler.release>}} it should fix this issue. Alternatively, this component can be built with Java 8.
