Not sure if this is possible without affecting other projects, but...
The current default JIRA Priority when creating a new issue is major. We would like this to be changed to minor since most people on our project aren't setting this and most new issues are minor.
Some initial investigation by our JIRA project administrators seem to indicate this is a global setting and is not controlled by us (See discussion at http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/lucene/java-dev/43487?search_string=New%20Issues;#43487)
Is it possible to change the default priority on a project by project basis? If not, feel free to close this as Do Not Fix.

This is similar: http://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-980 This contains a workaround, to some extent, but I don't find it all that satisfying.
Also check out: http://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-3821 They (Atlassian) seem to indicate they are working on it.
I'm a bit surprised that the default for all of JIRA is Major. I typically think of major as something that should be set by the developer(s) once the issue has been fully investigated, but that is just my two cents. I am finding that as I go through bugs in Lucene Java that I am constantly downgrading the priority.
Could/should we leave this as open/pending and mark it as something that will be looked into when it is available from Atlassian or should I just come back and reopen it when that happens? I volunteer to keep an eye on it.
