A decent introduction to SOAP in general and Apache SOAP in particular is at
http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-03-2001/jw-0330-soap.html.  This is the
first of 4 articles, although the third and fourth are somewhat more esoteric or
advanced.  The author of these articles has also written (or co-written) a book,
but I have not read it and so cannot comment as to its usefulness.  The article
at http://www.onjava.com/pub/a/onjava/2002/02/27/tomcat.html may also be of use
to you.
