[GitHub] incubator-ponymail issue #89: NOTICE file appears to include unnecessary ent...

GitHub user sebbASF opened an issue:

    https://github.com/apache/incubator-ponymail/issues/89

NOTICE file appears to include unnecessary entries; missing Quenda LICENSE

It looks to me as though the NOTICE file has several unnecessary entries. Any such entries should be removed. NOTICE is for required notices only.

Quenda: impossible to tell if the entry should be present or not, as there is no license associated with the code AFAICT. The license needs to be included.

Bootstrap: AFAICT, the MIT license is sufficient notice of the copyright claim.

JS regex def (I assume that is the same as WebURL parsing? - these names should be aligned) is also MIT and likely also does not need an entry in NOTICE

jQuery: again MIT, does it really need an attribution entry in NOTICE

quokka.js - does the author require the attribution in the NOTICE file?

Ha, just noticed I did that off any lists. Let me start something on legal-discuss.

Most of the problems have been fixed.
However NOTICE still refers to Quenda, but there is no entry for Quenda in the LICENSE file

There was a discussion some months back about donations and NOTICE entries. It was considered OK for the donator of the original source code to have an entry indicating that the code came from there, without requiring a LICENSE entry (which would make sense here, since it was apache licensed pre-ASF)
