[jira] Commented: (WICKET-1123) Ajax Panel Replacement Issue on Fireforx only (Kind of Complex Scenario, subpanels and tables)

Posted by "Matej Knopp (JIRA)" <ji...@apache.org>.
    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/WICKET-1123?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#action_12540032 ]

Matej Knopp commented on WICKET-1123:
-------------------------------------

Your "fix" breaks tree/tree table. In certain cases we rely on being able to replace one element with multiple elements (e.g. expanding tree node). This is a feature that we guarantee on all supported browsers.

It is not possible to distinguish whether the extra nodes in fragment are there because the markup consists of multiple elements or because the markup is invalid and firefox was unable to get over it.

So the correct (and only probably) fix to your situation is to replace the <span> element with <div> so that you get valid markup. I wouldn't mind fixing this on javascript level, but it doesn't seem to be fixable really.

A code that it is not being used it is usually referred to as "useless". I wasn't trying to be rude.

Thanks for the explanation of DIV vs. SPAN.

I thought the function was a GECKO exclusive, that is what I meant.

I didn't mean to attack you, If I was rude or ignorant please forgive me.

[jira] Commented: (WICKET-1123) Ajax Panel Replacement Issue on Fireforx only (Kind of Complex Scenario, subpanels and tables)

Matej Knopp commented on WICKET-1123:
-------------------------------------

This doesn't seem like a firefox bug. You have invalid markup.

<span class="borderStyle" wicket:id="subpanelsContainerPanel">subpanelsContainerPanel</span><br/>

should have been

<div class="borderStyle" wicket:id="subpanelsContainerPanel">subpanelsContainerPanel</div><br/>

Because you are replacing it with other block elements. It's illegal to put block elements inside inline elements (e.g. div inside span). I'll look at the workaround though.

[jira] Commented: (WICKET-1123) Ajax Panel Replacement Issue on Fireforx only (Kind of Complex Scenario, subpanels and tables)

Posted by "Francisco Diaz Trepat (JIRA)" <ji...@apache.org>.
    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/WICKET-1123?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#action_12540033 ]

Francisco Diaz Trepat commented on WICKET-1123:
-----------------------------------------------

I don't understand. The samples with wicket:panels all use <span> tags. All the application is full of these and none present an issue. As would be the case if the markup would be invalid.

The sample provided works perfectly on ALL other browsers EXCEPT in Firefox AFAIK. (All browsers being IE6 IE7, Safari, Firefox, Opera, Konqueror.)

The only one not working is Firefox. I am not sugesting a BUG on the firefox browser. I am sugesting a BUG in the Wicket.replaceOuterHtmln function that uses special NONSTANDARD function calls like createContextualFragment. This function returns an incorrect herarchy of nodes.

Should we change all WICKET:PANELS to correlate with DIV markup? is this new?

What about the code that seems to be useless:

// The following code seems useless, and then is commented out
        // get the elements to be added
        //var elements = new Array();
        //for (var i = 0; i < fragment.childNodes.length; ++i)
        //elements.push(fragment.childNodes[i]);

No problem, the code indeed was "useless", no offense taken :)
createContextualFragment is a regular DOM range method, but that not many browser implement it. As far as I know there is no other way to get the effect of replaceOuterHTML on gecko but to use this method.

Matej Knopp commented on WICKET-1123:
-------------------------------------

The samples are invalid. I'm not responsible for it. It works most of the time until it gets complex and is replaced using ajax.

Once again, You have <table> inside <span>. That is _invalid_ markup. How firefox processes it is a thing of firefox. We can't affect it in any way.

"special NONSTANDARD function calls like createContextualFragment"? Are you even serious?

The "useless" code is a leftover from previous refactor and it's already removed.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Some samples contain invalid markup. It's because before wicket had ajax support it didn't really matter much. So it works most of the time until it gets complex and is replaced using ajax.
