Preparing Turbine 4.0 Release + New Logo
Hi,
- Turbine Release.
I am in the process to prepare a release for Fulcrum Security (v1.1.1). I
found two adaptors OpenSymphony and (Turbine 2.3). I might update the
latter, but I think this is superseded by the sub module Fulcrum Security
Torque with Turbine subsection.
Is this right?
I already updated Turbine Web App Trunk (1.0.2-SNAPSHOT) to test the
current proceedings ..
The Release process pipeline then would be IMO: Fulcrum Security 1.1.1 ->
Turbine 4.0 -> Turbine 4 Web App 1.0.2.
Anything missing here?
- Logo. We should then update the Logo as well to the new Apache feathers.
Does anyone know how to do this best? A Powered By Turbine Logo does
already exist
https://www.apache.org/foundation/press/kit/poweredBy/pb-turbine.jpg.
Should we use it?
Best regards, Georg

I don't know about the opensymphony part. I guess this had something to
do with Scarab. I believe these modules both can go away.

The original logo source is available as a SVG file in
site/xdocs/images. I already tried to fix stuff but couldn't get it to
render correctly. I'll try again with Affinity Designer.
There is also a different powered-by logo available there.
Bye, Thomas

I´ll check in an updated version - smaller feather and downscaled png file
(500px).
@directions press kit
I understand from the press kit trademark politics link
http://www.apache.org/foundation/marks/:
"Using the Apache Foo or similar project graphic logos:
"Unlike ASF's word trademarks (such as "Apache" and "Foo"), our graphic
logos are also licensed to the public under the Apache License. That
license permits you to create derivative works of those logos, as with any
other Apache copyrighted work. However, trademark law does not allow you
to apply any "confusingly similar" derivative logo to software if a
relevant consumer would likely be confused by that use of that derivative
logo."
On the same page:
"Using the Apache feather logo to identify ASF and link to www.apache.org
:
"You needn't ask us for permission to use the Apache feather logo ... on
your own website solely as a hyperlink to www.apache.org or to an
appropriate Apache project, or in other materials, such as presentations
and slides, solely as a means to refer to the ASF itself.
All other uses of the Apache feather logo must be approved in writing by
the VP, Apache Brand Management or by a member of the Brand Management
Committee."
Using the feather to identify our (Apache) project ("appropriate Apache
project") - not even necessarily the ASF itself - would be IMO no problem.
Combining Turbine character + the Apache feather is not some "confusingly
similar" thing - being an established Apache project we (any Apache
project) have a certain freedom in creating our Apache Project Logo -
using the feather simply shows that Turbine is one of many Apache
projects! It may have a reference to the feather or not (Hadoop has even
the special case with a "hidden" feather" currently
http://hadoop.apache.org/).
Though, of course we could use the version you provided as well having an
Apache feather with the text more strictly separated.
But may be there are some other opinions/comments out there?
Best regards, Georg

I thought from the directions in the press kit that only unchanged logos
are allowed. Don't you think the picture is a bit to large? It is 2500
pixels wide. In any case, I'd prefer a smaller feather.

Hi Thomas,
I´ve checked in another attempt based on yours from me, with slightly
tilted feather with the additional intent to be similar to the old version
(svg and png, backed up the png as well). Maven has a tilt as well, but in
the other direction ;-)

I made an attempt using the new feather logo and changed the font to
Open Sans (Apache licensed). My proposal is committed in
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/turbine/site/xdocs/images/turbine-project.*
Please review and comment. IANAD(esigner).
