ARCH string convention in general

Hi all,

While I'm developing the CI for smoke tests, I notice that the ARCH string
is quite different from distro to distro in our repos on S3[1]. We can
discover a pattern:

centos, fedora, opensuse --> x86_64, aarch64, ppc64le
debian, ubuntu --> amd64, arm64, ppc64el

Originally I think x86_64 and amd64 are the same though...
Is there a convention that I don't know? Or there's a knowledge I'm lacking
of?

Hi Evans,

The distribution maintainers (aka implementors of the packaging i.e. rpm, apt) chose the values.

For instance check a random package at debian

https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=bash&searchon=names&suite=stable&section=all
vs fedora
https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=1092856

You will see ppc64el rather ppc64le (IMHO this was a miscommunication when the first implementation was done.)
and so on..
