General note kicking off discussion threads

Hello

Will be sending out a few e-mails in a few minutes just to kick off a few
discussion threads.  These aren't meant to be solved now just establishing
threads so we can discuss things which are important to get a sense on how
we want to approach them.  Please feel free to kick off other threads as
well as appropriate/needed.
