   There was already a TODO comment here about retrying failed commits. Right now transient failures like TimeoutException just get logged and skipped which can cause duplicate processing after a restart.
   
   Added retry with exponential backoff for retriable exceptions, max 3 attempts. Non-retriable exceptions still just warn and skip like before.
