[jira] [Commented] (INFRA-7856) Upgrade protoc on build slave(s)
[ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-7856?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=14016148#comment-14016148 ]
Jake Farrell commented on INFRA-7856:
-------------------------------------
We try and use the default versions within the install distribution to make it easier to upgrade and keep the build environments from having package collisions. All build slaves should have the same versions within a given os group. Right now the default version of the protobuf-compiler in ubuntu 12.04 is 2.4.1-1ubuntu2.
Would recommend that you either:
A.) bootstrap the compiler within your build and then reference it locally
B.) pre-generate the needed fields locally and commit them so only your dev systems need the generator. would still recommend A for setting up B.

> The podling Slider's build requires protoc 2.5.0. Please upgrade the version of protoc on some (at least one) of the ubuntu build servers. Based on the following, it looks like they currently have version 2.4.1 or earlier: https://builds.apache.org/job/protoc-version
