[DBCP] Release Candidate for 1.0 Created

OK, to get around the dependency on commons-lang for a 1.0 release of
commons-dbcp, I took the simple expedient of suppressing compilation of
the org.apache.commons.dbcp.jdbc2pool package (this will be restored on
the HEAD branch shortly). I've uploaded binary and source distributions
of the result to:

  http://jakarta.apache.org/~craigmcc/

Could someone please try the binary bundles and make sure that I didn't
screw anything up with this process? If all is ok, we can publish these
as the official 1.0 version of commons-dbcp (at last).

Craig

Looks good to me :)

So I don't need to include commons-lang.jar in Tomcat 4.x anymore then ?

Rats ... the discussion was informal then as well as now.

W.R.T. your suggestions, the tagged build does not include the jdbc2pool
classes and therefore is not dependent on commons-lang. It was compiled
under 1.4, but should run on 1.3 as long as you avoid using the new JDBC
3.0 method calls on a 1.3 JDK.

I'm afraid that I'm out of time to follow up on any of the rest of it --
anyone who wants to (or wants to yank the 1.0 release that is up there) is
welcome to do so.

Where? I saw some discussions of merging jdbc2pool with DBCP, and
discussion of doing a DBCP 1.0 release before that happened.
But I never saw a release plan discussed.

And what about my comments regarding the release below?

Craig,

I don't want to discourage you, we need a DBCP release for Tomcat.

But don't we need a release plan and a vote?

I notice that the DBCP builds you did are already listed on the DBCP
page as an official release and available for download from the normal
place.

Here is a minimal release plan
------------------------------

Build DBCP w/o jdbcb2pool and w/o dependency on commons-lang.
Modify build.xml to support building either DBCP or jdbc2pool.

Build both JDK1.3 and JDK1.4 versions of DBCP. Sign the releases.

branch CVS for jakarta-commons/dbcp 1.0 release.

Regards,

Glenn
