Question about Turbine Schema and TDK
Hi,
I'm still trying to get the tdk application to work
with DB2 7.1 tables.
In the various table definitions, ALL of the columns
appear to be defined as NOT NULL. However, the SQL for
inserting the sample data omit values for some columns
(such as the various BLOB fields).
I was wondering if the NOT NULL is a problem in the
generation of DB2 SQL or whether the table definitions
for other RDBMSes also contain non-NULLable columns.
In which case, I would be more confused than usual.
I can manually construct the correct DB2 SQL for
creating the tables, but wanted to make sure I wasn't
mucking the TDK further down the line.
ASIDE: in WINDOWS, does anyone know how to capture ant
output - specifically the JDBC errors? It's an stderr
vs stdout thing I would imagine.....
Regards,
Andy

Redirecting stderr is a problem under Windows (and before that,
under DOS). The standard command.com shells that come with
various versions of MS Windows don't support redirection of
stderr. You have a few choices:
1. Use a different shell. The MKS Toolkit has a pretty nice
Korn shell for Windows. I'm currently using Cygwin (open
source, free), which provides the bash shell. I think the
4Dos shell from years ago may still be floating around
somewhere. These shells (and I'm sure there are others) all
have various syntax (syntaces?) for redirecting stderr.
2. Write a program which will take a command line, run the
command, and captures stderr to a file. Years ago, the
Microsoft C/C++ compiler came with one called rederr, but I
haven't seen it in years. You could probably whip up your
own in C or Perl or even Java (using System.setErr).
3. Get the ant sources and change some or all of the references
to System.err to use System.out instead.

I don't think anyone has fully worked out all the kinks
for SQL generation for DB2 yet. If you send me the correct
SQL for DB2 I will integrate them into the torque templates
that are used in the generation of DB2 SQL. It's very
likely that they don't work.

I'm sure there are problems with the Torque templates
for DB2.
