The example you point at is not a monospaced text but a verbatim block (which is rendered in a monospaced font), ie the equivalent of a html pre-formatted text, where all whitespace and newlines are significant. Monospaced text (ie text within <<< >>> in apt) is broken correctly. To fix the issue you are seeing one should rather be able to set a different font size for verbatim blocks, I will open a separate issue for that.
