Fine. Thank you for your time. BTW, placing a filter on your email that
looks for OT isnt difficult.
You can probably buy a package for it

Most of the people on the list are running flavors of Unix. From those, the
big majority are running Linux, followed more or less equally by FreeBSD and
Solaris, and then other Unices such as HP-UX or AIX. MacOSX is picking up
quickly too. Another place to get Windows support for Apache is

comp.infosystems.www.servers.windows

If you are running this for commercial purposes and you cannot figure out
how to run SSL on windows I recommend you use one of the prepackaged versions
You can buy Apache 1.3 and 2.0 SSL-enabled servers from covalent (my employer)
or download open source distributions such as opensa.org

Please DON'T. My mailbox gets enough spam as it is, I do not need several
hundred people subscribed to this list to tell me what OS they are running.
This is an unmoderated mailing list, please help keep it that way

Terribly sorry, but my question was indeed apache related. I was interested
in which platform
would offer the most support via this mail list.
I'll continue the OT connotation in the subjectline and apologize for the
inconvenience.

Originally, we used Netscape Proxy Server 3.52. Now I put its proxy.pac
file as Apache proxy server home page. It works fine. Do you know where I
can find documantation about PAC file?

Thank you very much,

did you create on the server a PAC (proxy automatic configuration file) -
and in which directory? Have you ever seen a PAC file (javascript) ?
Why don't you simply set manually for the clients the ip-address and port?

Proxy server in Apache

Posted by zliu1 <zl...@nd.edu>.
mod_proxy is used to set as forwarding proxy server. IE user works fine.
However, for Netscape browser user, if using "Automatic proxy
configuration" and put the proxy server in the field of "Configuration
location (URL)", Netscape browser will show error:

"The proxy automatic configuration file is not of the correct type:

           http://proxy_server_host_name

Expected the MIME type of application/x-ns-proxy-autoconfig.
    No proxies will be used."

I did put application/x-ns-proxy-autoconfig into mime.type file.

What should I do?

Thank you,
Zuwei

Re: Noticin a trend

Posted by Scott Sherwood <ma...@shawus.com>.
I set up a Mandrake server with Apache, and the SSL encryption was already
installed. Just had to create my own certificates and it was good to go.

I know Mandrake's not the most stable release. In fact, Redhat is probably a
good deal more stable. I just happened to have the Mandrake CD's handy when
trying to interest the boss in switching to Linux from MS, and he got
excited enough that he wanted it set up that day. So I used what was handy.
Haven't had any problems with it, and I've added and upgraded a ton of
stuff. Runs like a dream. And if you install Webmin, all of your TSR's can
add users and mange the system with a html interface.

"all responses"

Umph! no wonder it feels like I should have subscribed to the "internet for
newbies" newsletter!
:c)

I guess I could *try* linux again (redhat?) if it means more support for
creating this SSL server.
Assuming I do, have any of you guys set up a ssl enabled server with apache
on Linux?
I'm sure I'd be full of questions.
