[jira] Created: (CASSANDRA-530) Redesign website

Redesign website
----------------

                 Key: CASSANDRA-530
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CASSANDRA-530
             Project: Cassandra
          Issue Type: Sub-task
          Components: Documentation & website
            Reporter: Johan Oskarsson

With the logo design decided on the work on redesigning the Cassandra website can recommence.

Incubator requirements: http://incubator.apache.org/guides/sites.html
Since the site is often the first impression a user gets it is important that it explains what Cassandra is about and how to quickly get started (download link etc).

[jira] Issue Comment Edited: (CASSANDRA-530) Redesign website

Depending on a time line for this, I would be willing to take this on. The next 3 weeks are really busy for me, but after that I could focus on completing this. If that isn't acceptable I understand, just thought I would offer.

I would suggest using something like Django with the django-flatblocks app, sure it's a "bigger" application footprint, but flatblocks sets up each piece of information on the page as editable for the admins of the site. It's pretty slick and easy to maintain copy and templates that way.

Either way, that's what I can offer.

Edit: just realized there's nothing here that flags really who I am, my handle is 'asenchi' in IRC. :)

Jonathan Ellis resolved CASSANDRA-530.

    Resolution: Fixed
      Assignee: Eric Evans

I think everyone is pretty happy with the Daniel Lundin / Eric Evans result now.

In my haste to comment I had missed the site guidelines. I'll be sure to read those over.

I take back my comment about Django, that would be overkill.

hyde should work, there's also Sphinx (http://sphinx.pocoo.org/) which one can make a really nice template (using Jinja2) and write reStructuredText for the site. I've been using it on a project and it's really nice to work with (great for documentation obviously, but surprisingly good for static website generation).

My offer still stands, although I understand if there's some interest in getting this done much sooner.

Eric Evans commented on CASSANDRA-530:
--------------------------------------

I had been working on this and planned to use Daniel Lundin's site design from CASSANDRA-231 (at least as a starting point). To that end I recently began converting that to templates for hyde (http://github.com/lakshmivyas/hyde).

That said, this is not my strong suite, and I'd be happy for any help, or to stand aside entirely to let someone else takeover! :)
